Parents of the 6 month old baby
boy Lara Al Nouri from Syria who underwent a successful liver transplant
surgery at Global Hospital Chennai under Dr. Mohammed Rela shares about their experience
during their medical journey to India.
“Our son was diagnosed with
Biliary Atresia by birth. He underwent Kasai operation when he was 2.5 months
old. We are not going to lie, it was never an easy road at the time when we
thought that the transplant was the worst case scenario and we grieved for the
wonderful life we hoped for him.”
The biliary atresia is a
congenital liver condition wherein the bile cannot drain from the liver through
the bile ducts to the intestines. The bile helps in digestion of fats in the
body and carries the waste products from the liver to the intestines for
excretion. This condition occurs in one in 10,000 to one in 15,000 children. If
the timely treatment isn’t administered then the children suffering from it
become malnourished and are easy prey to infections and complications of
cirrhosis.
“As per the doctors our son
needed to undergo liver transplant surgery. It was then that we heard about the
liver transplant specialist at Global Hospital, Chennai, Dr. Mohammed Rela and
his vast experience performing the pediatric liver transplant surgery. We
searched for more information on various online platforms and came across
Forerunners Healthcare Consultants. After going through the information on
their website, we decided to send them our inquiry regarding the liver
transplant surgery by Dr. Mohammed Rela at Global Hospital, Chennai. We got a prompt response from one of their
executives who guided us with planning our entire medical trip to India. They
asked us to send the medical reports of our son so that they could provide us
with medical opinion from Dr. Rela at Global Hospitals, Chennai.
Dr. Rela was our only chance
and so we sought another option from him. We talked to him over the phone and he
said that it is better to go for transplant now rather than later to avoid
complications and higher mortality rate. Finally we gave them our confirmation
to fly down to Chennai, India for the liver transplant surgery. The Forerunners
Healthcare group assisted us with our medical visa letters, transport, travel,
food and stay arrangement, etc.”
The baby’s mother volunteered
to donate her liver and so the tests were done. The blood group matched everything was alright
so the liver transplant surgery was done by the team at Global Hospital,
Chennai by Dr. Mohammed Rela on the baby boy who was suffering from Biliary
Atresia. The liver transplant was carried out by using a slice of the baby’s
mother’s liver. The mother who was donor was discharged on the sixth day after the
surgery and the baby boy was in the ICU for 6-7 days and was discharged around two
weeks after the transplant. As per the release from the Global Hospitals, the baby
is now healthy after one month of successful liver transplant surgery since he
has been discharged.
“We would like to extend my
sincere thanks to Dr. Mohammed Rela at Global Hospitals, Chennai and a special
thanks to the team of Forerunners Healthcare for their constant support. Thank you
to everyone for their tremendous support in the treatment of my son.”
Thanking You,
Parents of Baby Lara Al Nouri,
Syria
